PITCHING STORIES FOR IMPACT

Securing Traditional Media Coverage

Case Study Overview

President Biden announced the Parole in Place (PIP) Keeping Families Together program to allow spouses of U.S. citizens and their children to apply for permanent residency and a path to citizenship. Our goal was to get the word out that the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights (CHIRLA) could help with applications for FREE and position the organization as a leading voice on the issue of immigration.

SOLUTION

  • Drafted a communications plan outlining the goals, strategy, talking points, and activities.

  • Identified and trained legal staff to serve as "experts" on the issue.

  • Identified and trained community members and families who would benefit from the program

  • Created visuals including posters, social media assets, and podium sign for a press conference.

  • Wrote a "sexy" media advisory describing what press would get out of the press conference.

  • Followed up and responded to every single media inquiry. Thanked reporters for their coverage.
